“We have a word to speak. That is life. That life is stronger than death, that hope is deeper than despair, and that every tear will be dried.  It is our word to speak; that unity is not conformity, that community is more than proximity, and that labels do not define us and should not divide us. It is our word to speak that the hungry must be fed, that the oppressed must be freed, that shame has lost its stranglehold, and love has won the day. It is our word to speak, that every child deserves a safe place to live, and every soul deserves a safe place to worship, and that everyone is welcome at the table.
It is our word to speak.”
– Pastor Cindy Maddox

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

First UCC’s Visioning Process

First UCC is embarking upon a visioning process to build a shared understanding of our congregation, deepen relationships through reflection and storytelling, and creatively dream about the future. This work will result in three-year strategic priorities established by the Church Council to guide our collective efforts.

Our process, which is rooted deeply in a congregational approach, is guided by a Visioning Committee in collaboration with Sarah Lehman, a ministry partner of the MN UCC Conference whose consulting practice specializes in supporting groups through change, conflict, and transition.

Your perspectives and stories are essential — we can’t do this without you! Here are some ways to join in:

  • Respond to the Congregational Survey (details coming soon)
  • Attend an art-based dreaming session, facilitated by Sarah Lehman, this Sunday, November 16 (9:15 & 11:45). Visual arts allows us to tap into deeper knowing and creativity. Participants will create a multi-media art piece symbolizing their hopes and dreams for the future of our faith community. (No artistic ability required!)
  • Join a facilitated congregational conversation, led by the Visioning Committee, to engage in storytelling and sacred listening about where our congregation is being called. Please sign up for the congregational conversation using this form and share your questions or comments. Responses are requested by Wednesday, November 19.

RSVPs for the congregational conversations are needed by Wednesday, November 19 to help keep us on track. Please help the Visioning Committee by signing up by the deadline!

The major themes that will emerge through these and other visioning excercises will be shared with the community during our January 2026 Congregational Meeting and will ultimately shape the development of Council’s priorities and three-year plan.

Fair Trade Olive Oil for Sale in Church Office

Fair Trade Palestinian olive oil is once again available in the outer office of the church. Smaller 500 ml bottles are $25 and larger 750 ml bottles are $30. Please make checks out to First UCC. Read more about fair trade olive oil here.

Join us for WFFF!

Join the First UCC community on Wednesday nights at 5:30 for a hearty meal and welcoming conversation! All are welcome – come as you are!

The Evening Gathering will be meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evenings during the winter months, beginning December 7. We are making this change out of respect for the human desire to be cozy at home earlier in the months when it is dark and cold! Through November we will continue meeting at 6:00 p.m., including the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. All are welcome at this 30 minute contemplative service.
