IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Our Theme this Advent: Words for the Beginning

Advent is a season of endings and beginnings. As the calendar year comes to a close, a new church year begins. Christ’s birth ushers us into new ways of living and loving; and yet, the world as we know it spins madly on. In many ways, pregnant Mary was surrounded by endings — large and small, personal and political. But Mary proclaimed hope in a God who was and is making all things new. Christ’s birth offered a beautiful new beginning for shepherds and Magi alike — all the while, King Herod tried to bring Christ’s story to and end. When we ourselves navigate seasons filled with endings and beginnings, we need reminders. We need words that can feel like steady ground, like a path for our feet to find as we step forward into the unknown.

Our Advent series is filled with blessings, with the words we need to hear again and again as we begin a new season. We invite you to enter this Advent season as if you are entering a sacred new chapter, holding fast to the reminders that will bolster you for the journey ahead. To help you do this, we are providing free copies of the Advent Devotional Booklet which you can find at both entrances to the sanctuary. Please take one copy per family.

As you journey through this season, may you find words for belovedness and hope. May you find words for beginning again. For no matter what you are facing, no matter what this new day brings, love is your beginning.

Christmas at First UCC

Join a Connect Group: Journey through Advent to Christmas

A Connect group will be offered Wednesday evenings during Advent 2024, gathering at 6:30 p.m. December 18 with a final meeting on January 8, 2025.

Our time together will be guided in part by an Advent Devotional Booklet titled “Words for the Beginning,” with a focus on scripture, art, poetry, and hymns. We will take time for personal stories of faith and meaningful spiritual practices during the Advent and Christmas seasons.

Members and friends of First UCC who want to join others in a time of reflection during this time of endings and new beginnings are invited to sign up by calling the church office.

Baby Registry!

Eileen and Ademir’s family is growing!

Their baby girl is due on January 29, 2025, and the church is inviting members to donate some items they need. While she is due at the end of January, it would be ideal to get most of these things by mid-December. It would be a great holiday giving opportunity!

Please visit the Chronicle and sign up for what you would like to give. New and gently-used items are welcome. Thank you!
