Peace and Justice in Palestine/Israel

November 17 – 11:45 a.m.

The new Peace and Justice in Palestine/Israel group is having a discussion group on the booklet: A Dossier on Israeli Apartheid: A Pressing Call to Churches Around the World. A church-wide discussion of this reading will be held after worship. All are invited to attend! Copies are available in the Sanctuary and the Church Office and it can be found online here. Whether you think you agree, disagree, or don’t know enough about this topic, we urge you to read the Dossier and dig into the referenced sources or other information you find to be helpful, in order to understand the situation more fully.

Baby Registry!

Eileen and Ademir’s family is growing!

Their baby girl is due on January 29, 2025, and the church is inviting members to donate some items they need. While she is due at the end of January, it would be ideal to get most of these things by mid-December. It would be a great holiday giving opportunity!

Please visit the Chronicle and sign up for what you would like to give. New and gently-used items are welcome. Thank you!

New Member Orientation & Installation

Nov 24: New Member Installation

The pastors and Membership Committee held an orientation session on Sunday, November 10, after worship for those wanting to become members of First UCC. This will be followed on Sunday, November 24, by New Member Installation during worship. The orientation meeting will include UCC theological traditions and values, First UCC history, covenants, policy, leadership, opportunities for service, and expectations for members. There will also be time for any questions prospective members may have. If you would like to attend the orientation, please contact the church office so that an accurate number of materials can be prepared.

Winter Coat Drive

The Winter Gear Drive for the CAC has started

There is a large container in the south entryway of the church for those of you who have extra or too-small coats! Please see below for items the CAC will take. Please also be aware that the CAC is specifically looking for teen and adult sized heavy winter coats as children are typically able to access other resources.

  • Gently-used and new items are preferred, as are gender-neutral coats. Donations should be clean with working zippers and free of holes.
  • Heavy coats are preferred over fall or spring jackets
  • While children’s coats are always accepted, we hope to increase access to teen and adult sizes too!

Community Action Center Operation Joy

Operation Joy, a community-wide gift sharing program of CAC, is set to take place on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024! Through the generosity of hundreds of individual donors and dedicated volunteers, over 1,000 Northfield area children from over 500 households will receive gifts through Operation Joy this year.

Each year, our goal remains the same: to provide a joyful holiday experience for all children in our community. At this time, the most impactful way our community can help support this goal is through monetary donations. Donations will be used to purchase gift cards, which will give families the opportunity to select gifts their children will enjoy the most. In keeping with tradition, families will receive a blanket, lovingly sewn by local volunteers. Children will also receive a new book, donated generously by Content Bookstore and their customers.

If you would like to support Operation Joy, donations can be made online or by mail, sending a check directly to Community Action Center, c/o Operation Joy, 1651 Jefferson Parkway, Suite HS-200 Northfield, MN 55057. To help with our planning, donations are appreciated by Friday, November 15. If you have questions, please contact Lisa Percy by email at percy.lisa@communityactioncenter.org or phone at (507) 664-3506. If you would like to receive support this holiday season, please contact the CAC via phone at (507) 664-3550 or email help@communityactioncenter.org.
