Silence Is Complicity:
A Palestinian Call to Action
Date: Monday, August 5th
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Place: First United Church of Christ
Join us to hear from one of the most profound and important Christian Palestinian voices of the moment, Rev. Munther Isaac, Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, Palestine, and Academic Dean of Bethlehem Bible College.
In a presentation entitled Silence Is Complicity: A Palestinian Call to Action, Rev. Isaac will address the silence of U.S. voices and churches in the face of mass civilian casualties and the destruction of the Palestinian homeland.
Let it be clear: Silence is complicity, and empty calls for peace without a ceasefire and end to occupation, and the shallow words of empathy without direct action – are all under the banner of complicity… this genocide must stop now.
During the genocide in Gaza, Munther gained global attention for his sermon, Christ under the Rubble, which was heard by tens of millions of people and subsequently quoted in South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. He has appeared on CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, MSNBC, CBS, TRT, and Democracy Now! He is also the author of “The Other Side of the Wall: A Narrative of Lament and Hope.” Through these platforms he has been an unwavering moral voice speaking out against the slaughter in Gaza and the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank.
This presentation is sponsored by Friends of Sabeel North America and made possible with the cooperation of Northfielders for Justice in Palestine/Israel and hosted by the First UCC of Northfield. Sabeel Jerusalem is an ecumenical liberation theology movement founded by Palestinian Christians in the Holy Land.
