Please join us for an evening of Songs of Faith, Justice and Haiti ~

with Rev. Bryan Sirchio

Where: First United Church of Christ

When: Friday, February 25

Time: 5:30 p.m. Youth Pizza party, (RSVP to Cher Langley by 2/20 so we know how much pizza to have! Thanks!)

7:00 p.m. Concert

Cost: $5 students; $10 adults, ticket sales will go to support the ‘Whatif’ foundation www.whatiffoundation.org in Haiti, Haiti Allies, and the Haiti Justice Alliance of Northfield.

Purchase at 1^st UCC before or ‘at the door’

· Bryan Sirchio, www.sirchio.com/ is a gifted UCC minister and musician. He will have just returned from Haiti on February 18, where he has been involved as an activist for about 20 years.
· Bryan will also be participating in the Haiti Human Rights week from February 20-25, sponsored by the Haiti Justice Alliance, St. Olaf Relief Efforts, Haiti Relief Carleton, National Lawyers Guild and First UCC.

The UCC has a long record of advocating for change in our health care system, and a commitment to health care for all. Here’s a link to information about our position, and about things you can do to move this important work forward.

Here’s an excerpt from the Pastoral Letter:

As people of faith we believe that it is a moral imperative to transform health care so that it is inclusive, accessible, affordable and accountable. We call on our churches to actively work towards the creation of a national health care system and to affirm the moral and justice imperatives of equal access for all people.

Faith and Eco-Justice Leadership Retreat

Are you an emerging leader working on environmental issues in the faith community? The Faith and Eco-Justice Fellowship, sponsored by the National Council of Churches, builds a network of emerging leaders (age 22-40) interested in fostering their own leadership, deepening their understanding of global climate change and poverty, and strengthening their theological grounding. Fellows gather for an expenses paid retreat July 27-29 on Chesapeake Bay and join an ongoing network. Deadline for application is May 11, 2009.

All across the country, members of the United Church of Christ are working together on important issues of justice and peace.

A good way to join in this important work is to join the Justice and Peace Action Network (JPANet). You’ll receive weekly Legislative Action Alerts, periodic JPANet news, and Biblical and liturgical material for interpreting issues and action. You’ll find sample letters to send to decision makers, many of which you can send right online from JPANet.

The Justice and Peace Action Network is our grassroots advocacy network — a project that we support financially with our contributions to Our Church’s Wider Mission. But to be effective, we also need to support it with our attention and action.
