Apostles pick wrong night to play St. Paul’s
If it’s alright with you, the Fighting Apostles might take a mulligan on our season opener.
St. Paul’s of Cannon Falls, a good team, certainly, surprised us. The score was 21-6. So, just between you and the fence post, we are considering this an exhibition game. It won’t count in our official standings.
And yet, as always, there were highlights. Mike Schlottman pitched gallantly under difficult circumstances. Jacob Newman went four for four, absolutely pounding the ball several times. Greg Muth played an acrobatic shortstsop, getting a nine from all three judges on one diving stop. Tony Stano, playing for the first time in an Apostles uniform, hit the ball hard and made some circus catches in centerfield.
So, we will try it again next Sunday (Mother’s Day) at 6:10 p.m. when we play Trondhjem at Babcock Park. Now that we have shaken the rust off, I think it is safe to come and watch.
