The Fighting Apostles’ 2012 M.O. is beginning to emerge: single, single, single with an occasional power spasm each game.
That’s how we performed against our Methodist Maroon cousins last week in a 10-2 victory. It was hot and humid, and our goal was not to exert ourselves, so we played station-to-station softball, one base at a time.
Trailing 2-1 in the third, Matt Easvold kicked things off with a — you guessed it — single. Four singles later, we led 6-2 and never looked back.
Inspired by a cameo appearance by the Apostle living legend Tilman Achberger, Jakob Anderson had an all-star night. He provided the power with a three-run inside-the-park homerun and drove in five runs overall.
Tim Newman handcuffed the Methodist batters over seven strong innings, keeping the ball in the park, and Matt Forster and Dave Burton turned in sterling defensive plays.
We have next Sunday off while the league raises funds for the Community Action Center. Doug Morris and Christian Hakala are representing UCC in the Fellowship Scramble Tournament. First National Bank, Community Resource Bank, Frandsen Bank & Trust and Thrivent are providing matching funds. If you would like to contribute, talk to Scott Richardson after Sunday’s service.
