Celebration of our UCC tradition of openness and affirmation has been an annual occurrence in the Minnesota Conference since 1996. Again this year the Open and Affirming (ONA) Ministry Team of the Minnesota Conference of the UCC stands ready with an afternoon of celebratory worship and attendant workshops to strengthen our longstanding commitment to justice and inclusion with recent emphasis on the LGBT community.
Two workshops will be offered. There be a workshop entitled ONA 101 for those initiating the ONA conversation. The other workshop will center around the “Marriage Amendment,” a proposed amendment to the constitution of the State of Minnesota for the November 2012 ballot. The amendment workshop will be led by the renowned Rebecca Voelkel (google her), currently director of the Institute for Welcoming Resources and Faith Work for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
Workshops will begin at 2:30 p.m. Worship, at 4:00 p.m., will feature a dialogue sermon from Kathleen Remund and Marc Blakesley, members of Living Table United Church of Christ in Minneapolis. Music will be provided by the choir from First Congregational United Church of Christ of Anoka. Fellowship and refreshments will follow.
