Apostles persevere DSC_3013

The lesson for this week’s Fighting Apostle Bible study was from the Book of Job. It involved patience and perseverance.
Satan took many forms in the early going against Methodist Maroon, bleeding singles, balls just beyond our outstretched gloves, a few mental lapses. We even had pestilence on our West Nile bench near the Cannon River. But you will be glad to know that our men in teal refused to lie down. Trailing 10-5 in the fifth, they exploded for seven runs, added two more in the sixth and then withstood a late-inning Methodist rally to close out the regular season with a 14-13 win.
Dave Burton’s fielder’s choice in the sixth drove in Lon Kruse with what proved to be the winning run.
Matt Forster again distinguished himself in the field with a lunging catch in left and an artful over-the-shoulder-catch in the same inning. Logan Mueller-Dahl showed major league fortitude at catcher, holding his ground at the plate in the face of an on-coming runner and recording an important out.
The Apostles finished the regular season at 8-4 and will play Trinity Red at 1:40 p.m.  Sunday at Babcock Park. We will play until they tell us to stop in this one-day tournament.
